Yoga 2025
Nov/Dec Classes
A movement and breathwork class to decrease pain, increase range of motion, reduce muscle tension, lower resting blood pressure, and increase strength!
A sequence of specific isometric exercises followed by relaxation, results in significant pain relief, increased range of motion (ROM), muscle tension reduction, and lower resting blood pressure.
This combined with specific breathwork, meridians and yin yoga postures makes for a transformative practice.
Research has demonstrated the following benefits
-
Pain Relief: The most common and immediate result is a reduction in muscle pain and tenderness. Studies have shown immediate pain relief in a large percentage of patients with musculoskeletal and myofascial pain, with lasting relief in over half of the cases treated.
-
Increased Flexibility and Range of Motion: By utilizing the physiological principle of autogenic inhibition (where the Golgi tendon organ inhibits muscle contraction after a sustained effort), the targeted muscle can be stretched further and more easily after the isometric hold and subsequent relaxation phase. This effectively increases joint mobility and flexibility.
-
Muscle Relaxation: The core result of this sequence is a decrease in overall muscle tone and the release of physical tension in tight or hypertonic muscles. This process helps to break the cycle of tension and pain often associated with poor posture or injury.
-
Lowered Blood Pressure: Repeated sessions of isometric training followed by the body's natural relaxation response (vasodilation) can lead to long-term reductions in resting blood pressure, making it a highly effective method for cardiovascular health management.
-
Improved Posture and Function: By restoring normal muscle length and reducing tension, the technique can help improve posture and decrease functional disability in daily activities.
-
Reduced Stress and Anxiety: The relaxation aspect, often combined with deep breathing, benefits mental health by reducing emotional tension, stress, and anxiety, while also improving concentration and focus.
